Cada 5 años, en tiempos electorales y cada vez con mayor profundidad, nuestro país vive, desarrolla y se daña con una polarización que explora nuestras más oscuras facetas como sociedad, en donde un grupo de personas se sienten “superiores moralmente” de quienes piensan distinto y optan por una opción diferente. Se olvida que la democracia está diseñada para llegar a consensos a través del diálogo, en el marco del respeto de nuestros derechos, y no para destrozar estos derechos en medio de una batalla para “demostrar” quién tiene la razón y quién se equivoca, pregonando una verdad absoluta. Esto nos arrastra a un abismo muy peligroso.
Hoy, en las elecciones del inicio de nuestro Bicentenario como República, no es diferente pero sí peculiar, puesto que después de una primera vuelta muy fragmentada (lo que demuestra la incapacidad de los políticos de llegar a mínimos consensos traducidos en alianzas) tenemos el deber cívico de elegir entre dos opciones, las cuales solo recibieron la confianza (en primera vuelta) de uno de cada cinco votantes.
Esta “superioridad moral”, que estuvo presente en primera vuelta, se ha profundizado más, llevando consigo no solo a las campañas de ambas candidaturas, sino además a las personas que no votaron por ninguno de ellos en primera vuelta, a muchos de los medios de comunicación y actores de la sociedad civil. Y aquí debemos diferenciar a los respaldos de candidaturas, que son totalmente válidos, saludables y necesarios, de los ataques que se incurre para defender las candidaturas respaldadas, los cuales nos hacen recordar los momentos más penosos de nuestra historia en estos largos 200 años y que genera lo que ya reina en nuestro país en todo nivel: la desconfianza.
Probablemente existan muchas teorías que puedan explicar nuestro comportamiento como sociedad (no solo en época electoral), pero hasta la fecha no se ha ensayado una fórmula que nos permita superar estas confrontaciones; quizá sea momento de regresar a la unidad base de la sociedad y trabajar arduamente en las familias, y desde casa aprendamos a convivir, respetando nuestras diversidades y maximizando nuestros intereses comunes, en donde todas las personas tengamos la real oportunidad de expresarnos pero sobre todo de escucharnos.
Hasta ello, el próximo 28 de julio, después de la resaca de las elecciones y del proceso de aceptación o resignación de los resultados de la votación (que todas y todos debemos aceptar, gane quien gane), ambas partes polarizadas deberán mirarse y encontrarán en medio un país empobrecido, inseguro, con conflictos sociales por estallar, afrontando una pandemia y con muchas heridas por sanar. Pero, junto a él millones de sus hijas e hijos, personas dispuestas a poner el hombro, con ansías de trabajar y construir, preparadas para dejar sus diferencias y centrarse en las coincidencias; a ellas les corresponde ser las artesanas del diálogo, despejar dicha polarización y llevar al Perú a un verdadero desarrollo en donde nadie nunca más se quede atrás. Una de esas personas eres tú.
